Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. Through the years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma took as the lead role at age 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions they and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. The movie broke all records in terms of the opening weekend and revenues, and was the most-recorded 2001 movie. Critics have praised both the film and the performance of the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performances "amazing". Emma received five nominations for her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of the Film.
